Concept
Can you outsmart yourself?
Description
Basic GameplayIn this re-invention of the SHMUP genre as a puzzle, dodge a hundred of your own bullets and encounter your own actions as the enemy. You control the bullet pattern, can you outsmart the walls that surround you? Navigate through your own inner conflict with this minimalist brain teaser. Survive to find that one piece of the puzzle that will help you break through the barrier.
LocalizationWe have translated the game to Italian, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. This involved a lot of communication about the litteral vs the figurative since the game includes wacky words of wisdom like "I see said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw."
Walk-throughOur team has beaten the game 100% including all of the secret levels. Can you find them and get all 4 different endings?
Development History/Design ProcessI made the first version back in 2009 when I was trying to come up with an original game mechanic. I asked the mathematical question: "if you send out a shot from the middle of the ring would it always bounce back to you?" Then for an earlier iteration I added different kinds of walls and puzzles. Eventually the game became a goofy meditation on accepting the consequences of your own actions. This XBOX version is the "Snyder Cut" of the game with unique secrets and special levels like one shaped like the XBOX logo.

About The Matchy Star Franchise
Matchy Star is a casual action puzzle game where your dapper ships collect matches as you make them and you must rely on logistical skills rather than luck. Matchy and the wacky Alpha Galaxy are a universe unto themself, with tons of locations and characters. It's difficult making a new kind of game and new set of characters when own world is full of angry tweets and politics but we are up to the challenge! Our goal is to build a community around our Cozy, Fun, and Family Friendly universe, the "Matchyverse."
